Topshop want you, in a nightie (outside and not in bed) NOW – but is it anightmare or nightYEAH!?Fashion shows are a bit like buses, you wait all season for one – and then hundreds come along at once. Only these buses are really chic, packed with celebrities, a whole lorra trends – and they don’t accept Oyster cards.
Okay, so they’re not really like buses at all. But the Topshop Unique autumn/winter 2012 show *was* bustling with hot new trends (ahem) meaning we can ALL jump aboard the trends bus (ding ding) and ride straight into AW12now. If staying seasons ahead is your sort of thing…
But before we all go earning serious style smuggery points with our mates, let’s look at the celebs’ who turned out for Topshop’s LFW AW12 show mere moments ago, starting with…
Nicola Roberts:The singer wore a cream mini dress plus a mahusive pussy bow (*sniggers*) wrapped around her neck, completing her look with a cream2.55 bag. Nice one all round. She loved the show saying: "The collection has given girls everywhere a reason to look forward to winter.." True fact, though let’s have a little bit of summer first, eh Nic’?!
Front row regulars Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevingne and Pixie Geldof were all there too, doing what they do best by looking super-stylish, chatting fahhsion and sitting on the front row.Chloe Green popped along too. Only, it’d be weird if the Topshop heiress wasn’t there, what with her being Sir Pip’s daughter and all. Thankfully the Made in Chelsea ’star’ wore a Topshop Unique SS12 knit for the show too. What would have been MORE exciting, is if she’d have worn a pair of green-soled heels from her debut shoe collection for Topshop, out this May. Only she didn’t, so we’ll move on to…
Like the new collection? You have new head Topshop Unique designer Emma Farrow to thank for that. And here’s what Emma / Topshop Unique want us all wearing (uniquely, mind) come September 2012:Military details
Be it military bombers, exposed zips, parachute straps (hello Victoria Beckham’s AW12 collection) over-sized pockets or scuba necklines – as seen at Stella McCartney too – if it looks mean ‘n’ militant, it’s in.
Like Stella McCartney’s SS12 line before them, Topshop are hosting a big ol’ Pyjama Party and EVERYONE’S invited! From leather slouchy pyjama pants – as spotted at Mulberry and *on* Alexa Chung (in JW Anderson at House of Holland) – to traditional silky paisley drawers, nightwear = daywear this autumn. Bag an early invite and hotfoot it to Zara now, who’ve nailed the trend in their sleep.
Does the idea of going to work in your nightwear feel more nightmare, than hell yeah!? Why not try:
Leather trims, leather panels, leather contrast sleeves and leather boots were all go on the Unique catwalk. Invest now while it’s still chilly to get maximum wear out of yours.
Rolling in the deep…roll necks
And rolling out in a store near you soon, thanks to Mulberry, Kate Middleton and now Topshop Unique. Think Milk Tray man meets poetic type and get rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ asap. Next thing you know love bites will be back en vogue and all…
On midi skirts to mini skirts in cotton and in leather strips, pleats were the order of the day at the Topshop show. Team yours with a granddad cardi’ and laced-up hiking boots for instant fashion kudos.
A principal colour trend in Victoria Beckham’s AW12 New York collection, Topshop Unique have cemented khaki’s status as THE colour of autumn by, well, following suit. Best worn with exposed zip details at the back, and while listening to Creep by TLC. Edgy.
Dungarees were allover the catwalk but particular mention should go to the velvet full length pair that we are *pretty* sure dungeree fan Alexa Chung will be slipping on soon enough…
"The new boot length is halfway up the knee, girls, you heard it here first", say Topshop. Best worn patent, and ideally with toe-cap details. Oh crap, best start filing down those (slightly too high) knee high boots now then. Humpf.
And the Beauty Call
The model’s hair at today’s Topshop Unique show was styled by none other than celeb’ stylist Sam McKnight, who had flown straight from this morning’s Mulberry presentation, fashion fact fans.
Sam says: "The hair at Unique is ‘hair from the night before’ aka dishevelled, mussed up and laced with dry shampoo. No more chilly morning showers then? This is music to our, err, hair!
