We can now find Mila Kunis on the list of classic beauties because she’s just been added to an all-star lineup of Hollywood spokeswomen like Charlize Theron, Marion Cotillard and Jude Law: she’s the latest face of Dior.

In the photos, Kunis keeps it simple, with her hair drawn back and dressed in all black, showcasing Dior’s latest Miss Dior handbag. And when you look at these photos, it’s easy to see why the Fashion label is so taken with her. While we originally came to know the Ukrainian-born actress for her That 70s Show antics, since starring in films like Black Swan alongside the latest face of the Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, Natalie Portman, she’s quickly jumped into the high-glam realm. According to WWD, Dior has a "worldwide media plan" for Kunis, which means she may soon make a Theron-sized mark on their brand. Of course, if she keeps looking as flawless as she does in these pictures, I don’t think anyone will be complaining.

Developed in collaboration with Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini and Fiat’s Centro Stile, Fiat says the two models, one finished in pearl-glass black paint and another in pearl-glass white, are inspired by neo-classic black-and-white film.

"With Gucci as our design partner, we’ve amplified the Italian Style of our Fiat 500 with unique exterior and interior looks that will make the car truly unique on the road," says Laura Soave, head of Fiat brand in North America.

"This special edition adds dimension to the Fiat 500 portfolio and will appeal to North American customers who appreciate Italian style just as much as modern technology, value and fuel efficiency."

The black model features polished chrome details with a black and white interior that’s intended to project a contemporary and racy attitude, while the white version gets satin chrome detailing and an ivory-and-black interior that conveys a softer and more-sophisticated look.

A signature Gucci green/red/green web stripe runs along the side of the coupe, or across the convertible’s cloth top. Chrome cursive "Gucci" signatures adorn the doorframes and hatchback, while the car rides on retro-inspired 15-inch aluminum wheels with interlocking "GG" hubcaps and signature Gucci green brake pads.

Specific upholstery and trim accents continue the Gucci design theme throughout the cabin.

The Fiat 500 by Gucci editions will arrive at Fiat dealerships in December, along with assorted Gucci-branded travel accessories to ensure a truly chic driving experience. Pricing has yet to be announced.

SO let’s look on the bright side (every cloud, dears) because the A/W’11 campaigns are landing thick and fast and having seen the snug wares on display, we cannot wait to get our goose-bumped bods into cape coats, cocoon-y outerwear, glossy shearling, bright knits and sharp tailoring.

We’ve already raved about model-of-the-moment Saskia de Brauw for Versace, excitedly reported on the Balenciaga girls in Hogwarts, trembled at Naomi Campbell snarling for Givenchy and swooned over Tom Ford’s Swans getting SPEC-tacular, but what of the rest?
Today’s first stop is Dolce & Gabbana for which Steven Klein shot womanly-women and boy-girls lounging around the scrappy but terribly cool streets of New York City. Jac Jagaciak, Liu Wen and Kate King are seen championing the androgynous look in crisp white shirts, porkpie hats and sequined evening jackets while Isabeli Fontana, Maryna Linchu, and Constance Jablonski are their uber-feminine counterparts in corset dresses adorned with that gorgeous star print and sexy lace detailing.

What does this tell us? If there’s one thing to be this winter, it’s in Dolce’s gang. If only we could decide on the gender…

Zaira Beg cashed 35 forged cheques so that she could splash out on luxury items including a £4000 Louis Vuitton bag.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that her haul of exclusive leather goods also included top name designers gucci and hermes.
And that when they were discovered some of them remained unused and in their original packaging.

Beg, 26, forged the cheques over a nine month period while she worked for welfare-to-work provider Ingeus UK Ltd.

Prosecutor Karen Maxwell-Burnside said Beg ripped off her employers between February and October 2009.She told the court the treasury assistant faked a spinal tumour and regularly feigned illness to take time off.

The court also heard that in the days after she cashed a forged cheque she would go shopping.

Beg was eventually caught when an investigation was launched into her repeated absences and she was unable to explain and back up her reasons for taking time off.She later complained that she had been bullied at work and passed over for promotion.

Ms Maxwell-Burnside added: ‘The timing of the cashing of the cheques seemed to correspond with the times she was on sick leave.

‘It seems she would go and get the money when she was not working.

‘Although she took time off work she would return for the odd day to complete the monthly reconciliation forms in an effort to ensure her fraud was not discovered.

‘In total Beg, who was earning £1,700 per month, stole £71,350 and bought 22 handbags as well as a laptop computer.

But many of the bags were recovered from Beg’s home in Walthamstow, east London, unused and still in their original packaging.

Ms Maxwell-Burnside said: ‘Miss Beg told officers she had been bullied at work.

‘She also felt that she had been passed over by less well qualified colleagues on the basis of their dress and their manner.’

The court heard that since her arrest Beg had been diagnosed with Bipolar affective disorder and was receiving treatment for the condition.

Caroline Jackson, defending Beg, told the court: ‘It is not being put forward that she was so unwell that she did not know what she was doing.

‘Though, to have some 22 designer handbags at home seems quite odd behaviour.’

Sentencing Beg Judge Nicholas Huskinson said: ‘This was a very serious offence involving a breach of trust, especially having regards to your position of responsibility.

‘It was carried out over a substantial period of time and indeed the last cheque was drawn after you had already been suspended.

‘The deviousness with which you operated can be noted in that not only did you forge the cheques but you took substantial sick leave for which your company was receptive and generous to but you came in on the day of reconciliation in order to cover your tracks and that in my judgement shows a degree of calculation.

‘Beg, of Walthamstow, admitted one charge of fraud and was jailed for 16 months.

In her latest letter to a big brand leader, Solitaire Townsend imagines gucci transforming consumerism by selling aspirational green lifestylesHappy birthday Gucci. It’s 90 years since Guccio Gucci started stitching luxury handbags from an artisan studio in Florence. Today you are the world’s most coveted luxury brand, with 20% of global consumers eager to buy Gucci (if they could afford it), including a staggering 41% of Indian consumers naming Gucci as the most desirable brand in the world.

Can a designer brand be sustainable? Unfortunately the pesky issue of conspicuous consumption keeps getting in the way. Aron Cramer of Business for Social Responsibility puts it bluntly: "The need to develop new consumption patterns is the mother of all innovation challenges." Oxford Street on a Saturday makes a convincing argument for managing our expectations on that. But perhaps your own Aldo Gucci found a fragile little bridge across this gulf when he noted that "the bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory."

So is Gucci part of the problem or the solution? You don’t just sell handbags, you sell the most aspirational lifestyle on earth. Your brand is toted by the likes of Rihanna and Pippa Middleton, who set the standard for our desires. Your signature fragrance is even called Envy. When it comes to sex, status and desirability Gucci has our number.

So a transformative business model for Gucci wouldn’t just transform your brand, it would transform consumerism. Gucci could teach the world that without sustainability, Fashion is doomed; and without desirability, sustainability is impotent. Gucci can make sustainable consumption desirable.

Of course some argue that desire itself is the root of all evil, by fuelling our collective status anxiety. Alain de Botton advises us to embrace a bohemianism that despises all bourgeois status totems.

Except (as Gucci knows well) status and desire aren’t manufactured, they are simply exploited. Researchers have found that men’s testosterone rises when revving a Porsche. Those calling for conscious and value-led sustainable consumption are fighting not just attitudes, but the endocrine system. Our striatums (the status node of the brain) become just as animated when given a shot at improving our social standing as when we could win hard cash. And our medial prefrontal cortex goes wild when we see people who outperform or are higher status than us, flicking switches in the same regions of the brain that process pain. Unravelling the consumption conundrum becomes manageable once we realise affluent people aren’t buying products, they are buying status.

A Gucci handbag serves the same status signalling as the mouth tattoos of the Peul tribe, or eating nests made of swallows’ saliva in China. If status can get us to do crazy things, surely it can get us to do sustainable things.

That’s the riddle, and status-meisters like Gucci have small window to solve it. The global middle class is expected to triple by 2030, becoming a new market worth $5tn. Natural resource consumption will rise to 170% of the Earth’s bio-capacity.

Relatively wealthy consumers account for by far the greatest per-capita share of consumption, expenditure and environmental footprint. Three planets would be required were everyone to adopt the consumption patterns and lifestyles of the average Brit; five planets, were they to live like the average American. Offering 100% recyclable shopping bags isn’t going to cut it.

PPR (Gucci’s somewhat duller parent brand) reports a "vision of a better world that is more sustainable – economically, socially and ecologically – than the world we know and live in today". One platform of their impressive new $10m PPR Home programme is "setting the pace for a new, more sustainable consumerism". It’s time to edit out child labour, pesticides, water waste, and edit in skilled labour, biodiversity protection, reused materials and local sourcing.

You’ve done it before. In the 1940s, faced with a shortage of foreign supplies (fascist dictatorships having other priorities), Gucci began experimenting with hemp, linen and jute. The Bamboo bag born in war became Gucci’s first truly iconic product. That desperate creativity fuels Gucci’s global domination. The desperation and creative imperative looms even larger today.

I eagerly await the refurbished Gucci vintage collection, the collaborative consumption handbag hire scheme, the Gucci Swish and the adverts in Vogue depicting an enviable green lifestyle. You need to go beyond designing sustainable products, you need to design sustainable desires.

Gucci’s "Forever, now" slogan is a superb definition of sustainability. Time to deliver it.

We are talking about the early Michael Caine, the little-known British actor who became an international star in “Alfie,” a 1966 film that The New York Times critic of the era said “bubbles with humor and ripe modern wit” and that only those who now qualify for Social Security benefits are likely to have seen in its first run.“I was thinking about Michael Caine of the ’60s,” Frida Giannini, the gucci designer, said backstage on Monday before her spring 2012 show. “The unconventional, relaxed Michael Caine of ‘Alfie,’ the way he wore his suits with an open shirt.’’
Gucci men’s Spring-Summer 2012.Antonio Calanni/Associated PressFrom the Gucci men’s spring-summer 2012 show in Milan on Monday.

What makes that statement amusing is that Mr. Caine’s Cockney Lothario took his sartorial cues from a pair of other East End types of the era, the gangster twins Reginald and Ronald Kray.

Like Alfie, the Kray twins have proved a lot more durable in memory than most of their associates in crime (arson, shakedowns and brutal murder were Kray specialties; they were known to have nailed one enemy to the floor) and largely because they were clotheshorses almost pathologically fastidious about what they wore.

Movies have been made and books written about the Kray twins. Ray Davies of the Kinks and Blur both wrote them into their songs. Keith Richards makes admiring note of the natty Kray Twins in his autobiography, “Life.” So it was not a stretch to conjure an image of the Ronnie and Reggie David Bailey photographed once dressed in something resembling Ms. Giannini’s pipe-cleaner trousers with slash pockets, or else her narrow-cut glen plaid suits or the lightweight quilted bombers she claimed were inspired by the gear equestrians wear, an assertion that holds up if only you can picture a Cockney gangster getting kitted out for a fox hunt.

It was the evening clothes that best evoked the era’s slick and dangerous dandies, though, particularly a suite of crisp dinner jackets with tight, rolled shoulders, high armholes and neat lapels. In one stylish instance, Ms. Giannini paired a lightweight black jacket with trousers in a boxy gray tartan and paired them with patent leather loafers with microversions of the signature Gucci egg-butt snaffle and thick cushioned soles — just the thing, it might seem, for someone who dresses to kill.

MILAN (AP) — With a tip of the hat — raffia that is — Milan designers salute old-Style summer elegance, as they preview next year’s warm weather styles.

The breezy brimmed straw hat has dominated the current menswear Fashion week, making it the symbol for the romantic refined look designers propose from beach resort to pool side.

The latest in the series of those who have reinvented the vintage head cover, including Dolce and Gabbana and Ferragamo, is Kean Etro, who previewed his collection Monday.

Into the third day of Milan preview shows, the looks have been tried-and-true traditional, with occasional outbursts of bold color and eccentric styles by such mavens as Donatella Versace and Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton.

gucci

The latest Gucci collection is all about aristocrats, dandies and artists gathered in the haven of a posh gentlemen’s club, playing bridge and exchanging eccentric views.

The wardrobe of a member of the Gucci club has its sporty moment by day, and refined edge by night. The overall mood of the latest Gucci collection presented Monday is of innate elegance.

By day, the Gucci gentleman is into top drawer sportswear from the Equestrian theme with suede padding on trousers and shirts, jockey jackets, crimson linings and saddle stitching, to the micro-quilted fencing jackets and the wide golf trousers complete with elegant pleats.

At night, he is at his most attractive — and he knows it. Dressed in a black tuxedo jacket paired with Prince of Wales plaid trousers and wearing a cocky bow tie and signature Gucci loafers, he needs no I.D. to get in wherever the party is.

At Gucci, knitwear, which makes a big comeback during the current week of preview showings for next year’s spring and summer, is either oversized and woven in special hand-crafted fibers, or super slim in ribbed silk, as sexy as underwear.

VERSACE

Donatella Versace started out softly with soothing blue and beige summer suits with wide trousers and double-breasted jackets, worn with matching two-tone loafers. But the cool look was only a summer mirage.

As soon as the beat of the disco music got going at the menswear show, Versace was back to her old favorites: black leather, gold studs, buckles and straps all part of her trademark tight-fitting sexy styles.

To heat things up for next year’s spring and summer Versace adds flashes of bright color, combining such unlikely palette mates as fuchsia pink for a jacket with tangerine orange for the "matching" trousers. To boot, the accompanying sandals were in apple green leather.

The tighter the look, the more buckles Versace used to hold the outfit together culminating in a cobalt blue trouser with buckle straps replacing seams on a hip hugging pair of pants. These pants were paired with a leather jacket closed with buckles not buttons.

Studs decorated anything from shirts to shoes to leather jackets. One black bomber jacket featured a swirling pattern of golden studs across the front and back.

But Versace crossed all conventional boundaries in a series of silk outfits with Baroque patterns gleaned from the Versace archives, where among other items, a black and blue silk shirt is combined with the same print trousers to look like a jumpsuit.

The Versace patterns were also used for over-the-top poolside outfits with an extra large terry cloth robe and matching swim trunks.

D&G

The designing duo Dolce and Gabbana saluted the versatile foulard in the spring/summer 2012 menswear collection for their second line, D&G.

Foulards, often made of silk, can be used as a head covering, worn around the neck, as a belt, or simply tucked in a pocket, like a handkerchief.

In the D&G collection, the foulard, appearing in half a dozen patterns, formed the defining element of everything from blazers to shirts, from swim trunks to trousers.

The theme was a great occasion to deconstruct clothes, and restitch them with a colorful silk cloth to create a contrast of fabrics.

Tapered silk trousers had a denim waistline. The back of a denim shirt was a large foulard print — great ventilation on hot days. Another jean shirt had silken sleeves.

___

She may have shot to global fame as the designer of the much-admired royal wedding dress, but Sarah Burton hasn’t forgotten the bread-and-butter of the fashion business.

In her first major fashion show since being unveiled as the designer behind Kate Middleton’s nuptial gown, Burton showed her wilder side during the presentation of Alexander McQueen’s menswear collection for next spring and summer.

The line paid tribute to the English rock star, not a small market niche.

He’s larger-than-life, going for bold and even clashing patterns. But he also has an elegant side, with well-tailored suits in more subdued shades.

Plaid pants were paired with a checked baseball jacket, the patterns clashing but the black-and-white color schemes in harmony. Horizontal striped sweater went along with pinstriped pants, as though they were always meant to.

For the stage, there were golden thread pinstriped pants. For photo shoots, rockers could don a chest-baring deep V-neck sweater with silky trouser, or a floral tapestry jacket with matching peacock blue pants.

Etro’s Mediterranean inspired collection, which revisits the elegant shores of the French Riviera in its 1950s heyday, is full of references to the years when the bikini was born, but men still dressed up for a walk along the promenade.

Above all the colors capture the moment, from the pale sea blue to citrus orange and lemon, to blackberry purple and a demure strawberry red.

Prints underline the theme with fancy paisley, dandy tartans and beach umbrella stripes as well as a series of motif prints ranging from dolphins and sea horses to anchors and tennis rackets.

The volumes of jackets and trousers are loose and generous, easy but never casual. When the jacket is double-breasted it is paired with a skinny tie or a carefree silk scarf. The paisley bomber works by day or night.

Bermuda shorts are worn with loafers and black socks, a yesteryear look which regrettably makes a comeback on the current Milan runway.

Missoni is coming full circle.

Ottavio Missoni made his first foray into knitwear for the 1948 London Olympics, producing tracksuits worn by the Italian team. Missoni, who turned 90 this year, also competed in the games as a hurdler. The label’s menswear collection for next summer — when London will again host the event — is a tribute to the Olympic spirit as a source of Missoni’s heritage.

"We want to make people understand where it all started and why we have this comfort idea," Angela Missoni, Ottavio’s daughter and the brand’s chief designer, said at the Sunday evening preview show.

The collection features a special collaboration with Converse, knit-top Auckland Racer sneakers in Missoni’s classic alternating blue and white.

Knit suits — perhaps more appropriate for casual outings than the track — formed a core of next year’s warm weather collection. Intricate knitting work gave depth to monochromatic navy suits, a single button fastened over a cotton T-shirt in shades of blue.

Shorts appeared in an array of fabrics, from jacquard linen to gabardine, nylon to cotton jersey — the latter in long shorts that perhaps best evoked Olympic memories. They were paired with pullover, cardigan and blazer-style sweaters in classic Missoni zigzags and swirls.
