Frederic Bourke, the Co-Founder of Dooney & Bourke Handbags, Sentenced to Prison

DooneyBourkeGiraffeHandbags.jpgThe Co-Founder of Dooney & Bourke handbags, Frederic Bourke was sentencedy to one year and one day in prison for foreign bribery yesterday. Burke is required to serve three years probation once he is released, and is facing a fine of $1 million. He invested $8 Million in the early 1990’s to Victor Kozeny, a Czech Entreprenuer, in a bribe to the Azerbaijan government to get in on the state’s private oil company.

He was convicted for investing $8 million in the early ’90s with Victor Kozeny, a Czech entrepreneur, in a bribe to the Azerbaijan government in order to try to get a piece of the state’s private oil company. Bad mistake. However, Bourke claims he’s the victim of Kozeny, who he met while they were neighbors in Colorado.

Burke violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the Travel Act and making false statements to federal law-enforcement officials.
