Cornwall Resident Makes it in Modeling World

A Cornwall resident, who became a successful Fashion model, wants aspiring models to be aware of the pitfalls of venturing into the world of modeling.

“I have been exposed to the wonderful world of modeling as well as the dangers and risks,” explains Allison Jodoin. “My goal is to teach girls what it takes to be a good model and how they can obtain their safety in the industry.”

image Jodoin, who started modeling in 2005 when she was only 13, is back in Cornwall after a shoot campaign in Vancouver.

She is the granddaughter of a retired city police officer Ray Jodoin.

She will be offering classes starting April 30 at Magoo’s Dance Studio on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Her course will go over the ins and outs of being a successful fashion model.

The program will focus on the fundamentals like runway modeling, how to pose gracefully, apply make-up, and maintain a healthy and active life Style.

Instructions on how to dress for different occasions and build self esteem will be part of the course.

Jodoin started with an organization called Models and Talent Search Canada.

Her parents were pretty afraid of letting her become a model because of media’s representation of the industry.

“I am grateful they finally agreed,” she recalled. “It was the best experience of my life.”

Twenty different agencies from all over the globe were at the convention sponsored by Model and Talent Search Canada.

Jodoin heard from all the agencies and her first experience with modeling was in Tokyo, Japan, where she spent six weeks.

The next summer, she was back in Japan and ended her trip with a 10-day commercial shoot in Hong Kong.

Since her reputation as a top model was starting to grow, she moved to Vancouver with a large fashion agency, Richard’s Models, which sent her to Paris for the Fashion Week 2009.

She spent three months in Paris and returned to France the following year for additional three months.

Jodoin has worked in Japan, Hong Kong, France, Holland, the United States and Britain.

She has been featured in more than 100 magazines.

Between fashion shows, catalogues, she has worked for nearly 150 designers.

Some of her clients include L’Oreal Paris, Flare Magazine, Fashion Magazine, diesel Jeans, Perfect Wedding Magazine, Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs, Hanes Underwear, Mac Cosmetics, Nars Cosmetics, Vancouver View Magazine and Alexendre de Paris.

She returned to Cornwall because she needed a break from the fashion scene.

“I have been travelling for six years and haven’t had a chance to take a break,” Jodoin said. “I like to go on to different things in the industry such as styling or creative directing.

Born in Cornwall, she attended high school in the city for two years but then continued her education online.

This proved too difficult for someone working 80 hours a week.

She realized the importance of good education.

Jodoin is now finishing her schooling through a correspondence course because she realizes how hard it is to go through life without an education.

Once she is done, she can go on to do other things in the fashion industry.

When Jodoin starts her classes in Cornwall, she will be accepting girls of all shapes and sizes.

She says there is demand for many different “types” of models.

“It’s a great way for young girls to make new friends and learn some valuable skills from a top agency professional.”

To register for classes, girls must send two recent photos to Allison-jodoin@hotmail.com.

They must include their height and date of birth.
