Its popularity sparked thousands of imitations and the print was replicated on everything from baseball caps to shoes. The label’s luxury status was dealt its final blow when former EastEnders actress Daniella Westbrook stepped out with her young daughter, both head-to-toe in the house tartan, complete with matching buggy.

Burberry and Minneapolis share a fashion link to Palin, like it or not

Burberry, Britain’s once-staid Fashion house, can’t help it if Sarah Palin wears their trademark plaid scarves. “[T]he conspicuousness of the pattern also means that the company has little control over how it is seen, or on whom,” the New Yorker magazine observed, in reference to Palin. Minneapolis has the same problem: today the Mill City gets dragged into a lengthy New York Times recounting of Palin’s purchases at the downtown Neiman Marcus store last year during the Republican National Convention.

Of course, they weren’t really Palin’s purchases — and [...]

Why you can now bring that Burberry scarf out of the closet

Cut to the late-1990s and the images the print called to mind were not good. At one end of the spectrum were the Sloanes, who might tote a checked bag or brave the bracing King’s Road air with a scarf. At the other, were chav-tastic celebs who wore it head to toe, and enrobed their kids and dogs in it to boot. It seemed beyond redemption.
But now, thanks to the skywards-trajectory of the brand under the creative direction of Christopher Bailey, the Burberry check is no longer a [...]

The History of Burberry
